How to connect your payments to Order and Pay

Customers cannot order until the money has somewhere to go. You connect your own account, so every payment lands with you. Tablez never touches it and takes no cut.

Quick answer. On Settings, Order and Pay, look for "Getting paid". Connect at least one of Stripe, PayPal, SumUp or Square. A green Connected badge shows when it is done. Stripe is the usual choice and uses the same key as deposits and gift vouchers.

Which one should I pick?

Stripe takes cards, Apple Pay and Google Pay, and is what most venues use. If you have set up deposits already, Stripe is done and shows Connected. PayPal suits customers who prefer it. SumUp and Square are there if you already use them. You can connect more than one, and customers choose at checkout.

The companies charge their own fees. The app shows about 1.5% plus 20p a payment for Stripe and about 2.9% plus 30p for PayPal. Tablez adds nothing.

Connect your account

  1. Sign up free at stripe.com. In Stripe go to Developers, API keys and copy the secret key. In Tablez press Add your Stripe key, which takes you to Settings, Deposits. Paste it in and press Save, then Test Stripe connection.
  2. On the same page, add the webhook address shown into Stripe for the event checkout.session.completed and paste the signing secret back. It catches payments when someone closes their browser too early.
  3. You need a PayPal Business account. Press Add your PayPal keys, which takes you to Settings, Gift vouchers. At developer.paypal.com go to Apps and Credentials, switch to Live, press Create App, then copy the Client ID and Secret across. Leave Mode on Live.
  4. Paste an API key from your SumUp developer settings into the SumUp box on the Order and Pay page. The merchant code is optional.
  5. Paste an access token and your location id from the Square developer dashboard into the Square boxes.
  6. Press Save at the bottom of the Order and Pay page. Look for the green Connected badge.

SumUp and Square keys are saved once and never shown again. To swap one, paste a new one over it. To remove one, tick Disconnect SumUp or Disconnect Square and save.

If ordering is switched on but nothing is connected, the page shows a warning that customers cannot order yet.

FAQ

Common questions

Does Tablez take a cut of orders?

No. Money goes straight to your own Stripe, PayPal, SumUp or Square account. Tablez never holds it.

I already did deposits, is Stripe done?

Yes. Order and Pay uses the same Stripe key as deposits and gift vouchers, so there is nothing more to enter.

Can customers pay with Apple Pay or Google Pay?

Yes, through Stripe. They are offered with card payments.

Can I take refunds?

Yes, from each order, back through the same account the customer paid with. See the refunds guide.
