Table booking on Wix

Wix restaurant sites usually end up with an app from the app market that charges monthly, or a marketplace widget that charges per diner. Tablez goes in the Embed HTML element or behind a button, costs nothing to start, and never charges per cover.

Wix and restaurant bookings

Wix has retired its own restaurant reservations app in favour of third party apps, so most Wix restaurants now choose between an app market booking app with a monthly fee and a marketplace platform's widget. Both work. Both cost more than they need to for an independent. The app market ones are billed on top of your Wix plan; the marketplace ones add a fee per diner that grows with your success. Our OpenTable and TheFork pages set out those costs.

Tablez is a plain embed. Free up to 60 bookings a month, then £5 or £15 a month paid yearly, no per cover fees, and no app to install in Wix.

Option 1: the Embed HTML element

  1. In the Wix editor click Add (the plus), then Embed Code, then Embed HTML.
  2. Click Enter Code and paste the iframe version of the embed:
<iframe src="https://tablez.uk/book/your-venue?embed=1" title="Book a table" style="width:100%;height:760px;border:0"></iframe>
  1. Click Update, then drag the element to the size you want. Around 600px wide and 760px tall suits most sites.
  2. Check the mobile editor and stretch the element to full width there.

Wix puts embed code inside its own frame, so the auto-resizing script cannot talk to the page. That is why we recommend the iframe version on Wix with a fixed height. 760px shows the whole form on most screens; make it taller if your venue has a lot of time slots.

Option 2: a button that links to your booking page

This is what most Wix restaurants do, and it is the most reliable. Add a button anywhere, in the header for example, and set its link to a web address:

https://tablez.uk/book/your-venue

Set it to open in a new tab. Customers land on your booking page, book, and come back. There is no code at all, it works on every Wix plan including free ones, and it works in the mobile menu. Use it alongside option 1 if you like.

Option 3: a lightbox

If you want the form to open over your page like an overlay, create a Wix Lightbox, put an Embed HTML element with the iframe in it, and set your button to open the lightbox. It takes five minutes and looks polished. Give the lightbox a height of around 800px and let it scroll on small screens.

Wix Studio and Editor X

The same Embed HTML element exists in Wix Studio; it is under Add elements, Embed and social. Studio's responsive layout lets you set the element to full width on small breakpoints, which you should.

Matching your site

Set an accent colour and upload your logo in the Tablez dashboard and the form uses them. The form is built for light backgrounds; place it on a light section. The live demo shows exactly what customers will see.

Moving from a Wix booking app

Keep the old app running until the bookings it holds have happened, and switch the button on your site to Tablez today. Copy any future bookings into Tablez in the staff app, then remove the old app from your site. Cancel its subscription in your Wix billing page, not just delete it from the page, or you will keep paying.

FAQ

Wix and Tablez

Does Tablez work on the free Wix plan?

A button linking to your booking page works on every plan. The Embed HTML element needs a premium plan on some Wix accounts. If you are not sure, use the button.

Why does the form not resize on Wix?

Wix sandboxes embedded code inside its own frame, so the form cannot tell the page its height. Give the Embed HTML element a fixed height of around 760px.

Is there a Tablez app in the Wix App Market?

No. You do not need one. An embed or a link does the job with nothing extra to pay Wix.

Can I use my own domain for the booking page?

Not yet. Your booking page is at tablez.uk/book/your-venue. From the customer's point of view it is a page linked from your site, like a menu PDF.

What does it cost?

Free up to 60 bookings a month, then £5 a month, paid yearly (£60 a year). No per cover fees. See pricing.
